Untold coming to Philly this month!

Between this week’s Dancing Without Borders Haiti benefit at The Barbary, the Tough Love [Luvstep Release] Party, and Final Fridays, February in Philly is looking hella intimidating for such a short month! It’s because of the leap year, I guess.

Anyway, add to all of that UNTOLD!!! on February 18th:

This guy’s making some of the most interesting music from that nebulous nether-region between dubstep, 2 step, UK funky, and house—with elements of ghettotech, garage, and of course heavy bass thrown in. The man’s doing a short US tour this month, and we’re teaming up with Mishka to bring him to Philly! Extra subwoofers shall be lugged to the Khyber Upstairs for what’s sure to be a crazy, crazy, crazy night. [facebook event page]

He’ll be joined by some local prodigies: Plastic Little’s DJ and new Seclusiasis signee Si Young and the two ladies running all things heavy bass in Philly, Battleaxe Baby and our own Lady Prowl. Afterparty in the works too, we’ll let you know about that when there’s knowing to be knowed.

Sex, Violence and Hunka Chunka

The Wild Mambo

What’s going on, everyone? It’s Rx. This week is just the beginning of all the exciting announcements, tracks, and shows we’re posting in February.

First off, check out the track I did with Sonkin called “Compton, Saturn,” which dropped yesterday on the Abstract Logic Recordings’ compilation “Bass Wars.” You can pick it up at any digital DJ retailer.

I’m also excited to announce on February 1st my first ever Rx EP entitled “New Year’s Day” will be dropping on Subdepth Records! If you’re in the Philly area, be sure to swing by early to The Barbary Thursday, February 4th at the “Dancing Without Borders!” Haiti relief show, as I’ll be playing the EP in its entirety before all the other amazing acts go on. Mr. Flufftronix will be there as well, so it’ll be a night of party jams, great live music, and of course big bass for a great cause.

And finally, without further ado, here’s a free–yes that’s right, FREE–download of my track “Hunka Chunka.” It’s a messy, murky melty banger that sounds like a broken robot vulture trying to escape from a janitor’s closet at the Days Inn. So if you want that feelin’ for the clubbbb, go on download and rinse this tune! Oh and one more thing…the first person to @ reply to my Twitter the correct answer of what movie I sampled for this track, I will personally send you one of my tracks off my upcoming album. You can get TWO dubs if you guess the correct scene.

Now go do the wild mambo!

Rx - Hunka Chunka

Photos from Subdivision @ The Khyber

Our first party of the new year was hot, sweaty, and full of heavy bass + lovely people! Be sure to come back on 2/26/10 for our next party w/special guest Jubilee (Nightshifters, NYC)!

GIMME DAT GIMME DAT!!: Malt Liquor (teaser video) feat Chae Hawk – Rx

Rx & Chae Hawk released a teaser for Rx’s upcoming album “Concussions.” It’s footage from their show together in Buffalo with Rusko, and shows off Chae’s very own brand of Malt Liquor. Check out the live footage video, as well as the commercial for Chae’s own brand of malty goodness (directed by Chae Hawk himself). Mmmmmm, Hurricane.

Subdivision at The Khyber next Friday

This is the first time we’re playing together since MAD DIVISION and it’s gonna be bonkerz. Free drinks while they last so get there early!

Luvstep: Coming this Valentine’s Day!

Mad Decent is releasing a mix Dirty South Joe and I created called Luvstep, which highlights the oft-hidden smooth side of dubstep. We’ve been sitting on it awhile and are suuuuuuper excited to announce it’s going to be out on Valentine’s Day via Mad Decent Worldwide Radio!

In fact we were so psyched we had to make a video teaser for the whole damn thing..

Subdivision Best of 2009: Rx selections

With Subdivision’s one year anniversary quickly approaching, each member of the Subdivision family will be reflecting upon the music of 2009 before welcoming in 2010.

First up is Subdivision Philadelphia’s Rx 2009 picks:

5. Moth - Burial and Four Tet
C’mon, do you even need to hear the song before you know you’ll love it? The song is a tour de force collaboration, combining the subtle and haunting samples they’re both known for. “Moth” demonstrates incredible restraint then release from the duo in order to make one of the most distinct, progressive, timeless tracks I’ve heard in recent years. Bravo.

4. These Words - Martyn (featuring dBridge)
Another one of my favorite, innovative, “I don’t care what the hell genre this is, I just love it” tracks of this year. Dropped at the right time in a set and you can turn a wub wub chk-chk-BANG hour into romance in the club. Definitely need more tracks like this out there.

3. A New Error - Moderat
What an infectious, heady groove. If C3PO was peaking on ecstasy, he’d want to turn this tune UP!

2. Vibrationz – Javelin
When I first heard this song, I had it on repeat the whole month and just walked around my house in nothing but a bathrobe, socks and drank white Russians – that’s all I needed!

1. United Groove - L-Vis 1990
Need I say more? Unbelievably innovative groove, arrangement, soundscape, and most of all – IT KNOCKS!! Works everytime – I had to own this on wax the second I heard it. Fun fact that makes it all better: L-Vis LOVES Wawa!
